New Season Brace for Regan!

Well the new season finally started for the Clonee United Under 15 team at Balheary Reservoir Home of Swords Celtic.

Their coach Gerry has done a great job getting the team together and they have a great set up there.

Clonee Utd gave debuts to two new signings in Liam Scanlon and TeeJay Gbadebo who both did themselves credit in the game. Liam in particular looked to fit in well at right back and grew in confidence. The midfield trio of Fionn O’Moore, Danny Ash and Ryan Edge gelled well together. With Fionn adding the fourth goal late in the second half.

The star of the goals though had to be Robert Regan who bagged himself a goal in each half and had a great tussle all day with the Celtic right back. Robert was on fire and his second goal was a screamer into the top corner following nice triangle passage of play involving four Clonee players. Mark McCann did a great job in goal deputising for the regular keeper. The captain Nathan Regan played well and kept the defence of Liam, Ryan Dempster and the composed Toto Okafor in check and carried them to the final whistle.Adam Strastian opened his goal scoring account with a well taken goal that again was a team effort that was started in defence and then passed through midfield out to the left with Robert Regan a neat cross from Danny Ash and a lovely finish by Adam.

Giedris Vassilikas and Adam Maher both contributed well on the right hand side and put through some great crosses from the right.Swords had a man sent off with ten minutes left and Clonee then were able to pass and move and come close several times towards the end. It was at this time that Fionn scored a lovely goal. All of the team did their bit but the extra flair and left foot of Robert Regan up front and Ryan “Kante” Edge in midfield gave United the edge. Great to be back but this is where it starts there is a long way to go…

Scorers: R Regan 2, Strastian, O’Moore.
