MGL Announcement – League & Academy

The largest Girls League in Ireland the Metropolitan Girls League, kicked off yesterday 16th September with 225 Teams at every age group from 8s to 18s which will run until May 2019

We are also delighted to announce that Under 8s and 9s Teams will always be Free of Charge in the MGL

We are the only League in Ireland offering football at every age group from 8s to 18s and following some outstanding work over the last number of month by our Academy Director Philip Henry, we are pleased to announce that this season we will have two League Centre Academies in Dublin on both sides of the City.

Northside Academy

Southside Academy

The Southside Academy, which will have Squads at Under 11s, 13s and 15s Age Groups, is starting on Friday 12th October in St Kilian’s School on Roesbuck Road in Clonkeagh. We will be adding Under 12s and 14s Squads to this Venue in September 2019.

Whilst our Northside Academy in the Oscar Traynor Coaching & Development Centre will return a week earlier on Friday 5th October with Squads running at Under 11s, 12s, 13s, 14s, 15s and Youths (16s to 19s) Age Groups.

All of our Head Coaches at all Age Groups in both venues hold a Minimum of FAI C License with three of them holding an UEFA B Coaching Award. Later this year, three of our Coaches are enrolled on the first FAI / UEFA B Female Only Course starting in Late November. All six of our Younger Female Coaches (All aged 21 or Younger) are working towards their FAI D License and should have obtained the Award by the end of 2018

The MGL has made great progress in the last 8 years, catering for both Community and Elite Teams whilst maintaining Player Development as our Number One Focus, we are hoping that Clubs from all across Dublin (Southside and Northside) and surrounding areas join the Biggest & Most Progressive Girls League in the Country, which was shown in the recent Republic of  Ireland vs Northern Ireland FIFA World Cup Qualifier in Tallaght where Jessica Ziu made her Debut only 3 short months after playing in the Metropolitan Girls League
